Silence is NOT golden. If I were to relate it to a specific color, I would say silence is black. Remaining silent perpetuates problems and makes it easier to ignore issues that should be brought into the light and talked about. Silence says you agree with the injustice you witness. It says, “This isn’t important enough to take the time to speak out”, or “No one will listen anyway.” It says you have better things to do – let someone else worry about it. Silence is counter-productive, deadly even if it is allowed to go on and become the norm. It is our responsibility, our duty to our children and our children’s children to speak out. Speak up. Speak clearly. Diversity is important. It is worth your time, and if you speak loud enough and often enough, people will listen. End the silence.
